Suspected Militants Assassinate Prominent Cleric in Sendegue, Mopti Region

02/15/2018 (Mali) - According to sources specialised in the region on Thursday, 15 February, suspected Jama'at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin (JNIM) militants assassinated an imam in the village of Sendegue in the Ouroube Doude commune, Mopti Region. Reports indicate that the suspected militants were attacked by local crowds who lynched and killed one of the assailants.

Those with operationally-critical travel requirements in Mopti Region should first conduct a thorough localised threat assessment and subject all movement to stringent journey management procedures. Travellers are advised to liaise with security forces and local authorities to identify areas with ongoing security operations. Contingency measures should also be continually reviewed and updated so as to remain commensurate to the local threat environment.
