Reports of Car Bomb Blast in Wadajir District of Mogadishu

02/15/2018 (Somalia) - According to emerging and unconfirmed reports from social media sources on Thursday, 15 February, there has been a large explosion in Mogadishu. Unconfirmed sources state that the blast was the result of a car bomb detonating in the Wadajir district of the city. The Wadajir district houses the Siliga Amerikanka refugee camp and also the Burundian Military Contingent of the African Union Mission In Somalia (AMISOM). It is not clear if these areas have been targetted or if there have been any casualties caused by the incident. Further updates are awaited.

Travellers should be aware that Somalia is considered an extreme risk operational environment and, as such, all travel should be undertaken with the strictest possible journey management protocols in place. Clients should ensure that personnel and site security measures are continuously reviewed so as to remain commensurate to the prevailing local threat environment. All operationally-critical movement outside of secure compounds should be conducted in coordination with a reputable security provider in coordination with security forces and local authorities.
