02/14/2018 (Congo (Kinshasa)) - According to regional media sources on Wednesday, 14 February, Congolese Armed Forces (FARDC) have reportedly seized control of a major base operated by the Ugandan-based Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) militant group near Beni in North Kivu Province. The base, located near Mwalika, was captured along with camps in Sesele and Mapobu after a week of intense fighting. Army sources allege that the camp at Mwalika was a key logistics hub for the ADF militant group.

Instability persists across the eastern regions of the DRC, particularly North Kivu province, and numerous militant groups are known to operate in the region. Essential travel in the region should be subjected to the strictest possible security risk management procedures, including contracting armed private security and using vehicles equipped with radios. Personnel operating in the DRC are advised to regularly review their crisis management plans and security measures to ensure they remain commensurate with the evolving local threat environment.
