Several Killed following Road Traffic Accident on Nyangusu-Keroka Highway near Keroka, Nyanza Province

02/14/2018 (Kenya) - According to local media sources on Wednesday, 14 February, at least seven people were killed after a vehicle lost control and veered into a ditch on the Nyangusu-Keroka Highway near Keroka in Nyanza Province. The four occupants of the vehicle and three pedestrians were killed during the incident. It is indicated that the vehicle had exceeded its stated passenger capacity, however the cause of the accident was deemed to be brake failure. The vehicle in question was a Probox, which have been increasingly used as unlicensed taxis.

Clients are reminded that local driving habits can be hazardous and those in Kenya are advised against self-driving in the country if unfamiliar with local roads and driving conditions. Travellers should exercise a heightened level of caution when conducting overland travel, ensuring that any transport providers meet the highest possible safety standards.
