02/14/2018 (Sudan) - According to local media, opposition supporters have called for protests against high food prices on Thursday, 15 February, at Jackson Square in Khartoum at 1400hrs (1200 UTC). The protest is intended to be peaceful, however previous protests on the issue have resulted in clashes with security forces. Khartoum has seen frequent demonstrations since the government removed wheat subsidies as part of the 2018 budget released in January, which doubled the price of bread.

Travellers are advised to avoid all demonstrations and political gatherings in Sudan due to the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances and heavy-handed crowd control operations. If a planned or spontaneous protest or gathering occurs in a client's area of operations, travellers should seek to vacate the area immediately. Travellers are further advised to monitor local media sources for updates on the current unrest.
