02/14/2018 (Colombia) - According to local media outlets on Wednesday, 14 February, the national oil company Ecopetrol has been forced to suspend operations at three oilfields near the localities of Acacias and Castilla la Nueva in the Meta department including Castilla, Chichimeme and CPO-9 fields. The decision by the energy company, taken on Sunday, 11 February, comes following protests at their facilities held for several days; multiple people were recently reported injured. Protests are reportedly still ongoing in the vicinity of the affected areas. Community representatives have stated that they will continue protesting the company's poor local employee hiring rates. Reports indicate that Ecopetrol has cut down its production by 400,000 barrels a day.

Clients in the aforementioned area are advised to remain clear of the vicinity of any protests in order to mitigate against unruly crowd behaviour, opportunistic crime and heavy-handed police response. Keep apprised of further developments on these protests by closely monitoring local sources.
