02/14/2018 (Sudan) - According to local media sources on Wednesday, 14 January, at least eight herdsmen were killed yesterday in a raid carried out against Mistry Village, West Darfur, by suspected Chadian militiamen. The raiders took hundreds of livestock in the action. Reports indicate that attacks of this kind are recurrent in the porous Chad-Sudan border despite joint military operations to curb bandits' cross-border attacks.

Personnel should exercise caution when travelling in Western Sudan due to the high risk of cross-border militia attacks. All operationally-critical overland travel should be conducted in coordination with a trusted security provider following a comprehensive localised threat assessment. Travellers are further advised to monitor local media sources for updates on the situation in their particular area of operations.
