02/14/2018 (France) - According to emerging social media feeds on Wednesday, 14 February, pro-Kurdish groups have organised demonstrations in Strasbourg on Saturday, 17 February. Protests against the recent Turkish military offensive in Afrin will be held at 1130hrs (1030 UTC) in the vicinity of Place de la Gare.
Travellers should exercise a heightened level of caution when conducting overland travel in the area and plan alternative routes to avoid the rally. Clients in Strasbourg are advised to avoid the vicinity of all political gatherings in order to limit exposure to unruly crowd behaviour and opportunistic crime. Travellers should be aware of the possibility for seemingly peaceful protests to quickly turn violent.
