02/13/2018 (Ethiopia) - According to local media on Monday, 12 February, multiple towns in the Oromia region are striking for the release of political prisoners by the government. The strike was called by the National Youth Movement for Freedom and Democracy (QEERROO) and is expected to last for 72 hours. Protests took place in multiple towns in the region to mark the beginning of the strike.

Clients in the region should anticipate disruption to local services during the strike and should review business continuity plans accordingly. Travellers are advised to avoid all political protests to mitigate against incidental violence, opportunistic crime and a possible heavy-handed police response. Monitor local media for updates on localised protests in the region and associated travel disruption.
