State of Emergency Declared after Tropical Storm Gita Causes Widespread Flooding and Power Outages

02/13/2018 (Tonga) - According to international media on Tuesday, 13 February, the government of Tonga has declared a state of emergency after Tropical State Gita passed through the country on Monday. Social media images should widespread flooding and property damage, and power outages have been reported since Monday evening. There are no reports of injuries at this time.

Clients in Tonga are advised to monitor local media sources for weather-related updates and to remain apprised of disruption and warnings in their particular area of operations. Drivers should exercise a heightened degree of caution in flood-affected areas due to likely hazardous conditions caused by flooding, landslides and debris.
