Multiple Killed after Clashes between Anti-Government Protesters and Riot Police in Hamdallaye District of Conakry

02/13/2018 (Guinea) - According to international media on Tuesday, 13 February, two people have been killed in clashes between protesters and riot police in the Hamdallaye district of Conakry on Monday after protests related to disputed local elections results and a teachers' strike. Unrest has occurred frequently in Conakry since the disputed 4 February local elections, and to a lesser extent since November 2017 due to a dispute over teachers' salaries.

Clients in Conakry are advised to exercise caution in all overland travel due to ongoing disruption related to the disputed local elections. Travellers are advised to avoid all political protests to mitigate against incidental violence, opportunistic crime and a possible heavy-handed police response Monitor local media for updates on localised protests in Conakry and any associated travel disruptions.
