Police Fire at Protesters in Jimma, Oromia region

02/13/2018 (Ethiopia) - According to emerging social media outlets on Tuesday, 13 February, police have fired on anti-government protesters in the city of Jimma, Oromia region. Unconfirmed accounts indicate that at least five people have been injured following the shooting. It is currently unclear if there have been any fatalities. Further information is awaited.


Those in Ethiopia are advised to monitor local media sources to remain apprised of any demonstrations in their particular area of operations, particularly in the Oromia region. Travellers are further advised to minimise time spent in the vicinity of all demonstrations and political gatherings in Ethiopia due to the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances, incidental violence and heavy-handed police crowd dispersal measures.
