01/19/2018 (United States) - According to national media reports on Friday, 19 January, the largest annual anti-abortion demonstration in the U.S. will take place in Washington D.C. today with the White House announcing that President Trump will address the attendees via live broadcast. Protests will also be held in 70 other locations throughout the country and are expected to be met with counter protests leading to the possibility of clashes. The president's involvement will likely invoke increased participation compared to previous years.
Clients are advised to refer to local media sources if protests are taking place in their area, particularly around health clinics. All are advised to remain clear of any type of political demonstration in order to mitigate against unruly crowd behaviour, opportunistic crime and heavy-handed police response. Travellers should be reminded that significant travel disruption is likely and should be aware of further developments by monitoring local sources.
