01/19/2018 (Peru) - According to the Foreign Commonwealth Office (FCO), access to several Airports, including Lima (LIM), and roads will be restricted throughout the pope's visit between 18 - 21 January. In addition, travellers may experience extra security measures including roadblocks, checkpoints and a higher than usual presence of security forces due to the possibility of protests related to the visit.
Travellers should monitor local media sources to remain apprised of road and border closures and other security measures affecting overland travel in the cities, and factor these into travel itineraries, planning alternative routes where possible. Clients should also be mindful of potential unrest during the visit and avoid any political protests or demonstrations due to the risk of exposure to incidental violence and opportunistic crime.
