Security Operation Underway in Multiple Provinces; Suspected Insurgents Killed

01/19/2018 (Afghanistan) - According to local media reports on Friday, 19 January, a nationwide offensive has been launched, including the following provinces: Nangarhar, Laghman, Ghazni, Logar, Uruzgan, Zabul, Heart, Farah, Badghis, Faryab, Baghlan, Kunduz and Helmand. Emerging reports suggest 34 militants have been killed with a further 33 injured. The offensive was reportedly supported by artillery and air strikes. Further details are awaited.
Due to the Taliban presence and ongoing security operations, travel in the aforementioned provinces should be limited to operationally-critical deployments. Those in the province are advised to operate under the strictest possible security risk management measures in coordination with local authorities and a trusted security provider. Security procedures should be regularly reviewed and updated so as to remain commensurate to the local threat environment.
