01/19/2018 (Philippines) - According to local media sources on Friday, 19 January, the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) is staging a rally in Quezon City. The protest will be held at the Boy Scout Circle and Monument on Timog Avenue at 1800 local time (1000 UTC). The action is being held following efforts by the current administration to limit the circulation of certain media outlets which the NUJP sees as ultimately limiting press freedom. The organisers of the protest have urged those attending to remain civil for the duration of the event. The authorities have stated that the protesters have a right to peaceful assembly and that officers present at the rally will observe maximum tolerance.

Clients in Quezon are advised to avoid the vicinity of the protest in order to lessen the chances of being affected by incidental violence and opportunistic crime. Travellers should monitor local media sources for any further information and heed any directives issued by the authorities.
