01/19/2018 (India) - According to local media sources on Friday, 19 January, a number of protest marches have been orchestrated by the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) outside railway stations at Parassala, Neyyattinkara, Thiruvananthapuram, Kazhakuttom and Varkala in south west India on Thursday. The demonstrations were organised in protest against the proposed move to transfer the Nemom-Tirunelveli portion to the Madurai railway division and subsequent efforts to re-appoint retired employees of the Indian Railways. Further protests over this issue are likely and trains in the area could be subject to further delays.

Clients in the area are advised to avoid the vicinity of the protest and any large political gatherings in order to lessen the chances of being affected by incidental violence and opportunistic crime. Travellers should monitor local media sources for any further information and heed any directives issued by the authorities.
