01/19/2018 (Nigeria) - According to local media sources on Friday, 19 January, members of Benue State farming communities have organised a sit-in outside the main gate to the National Assembly Complex in Abuja to protest against the recent killing of their people by Fulani herdsmen. The protesters are thought to have arrived at 1000hrs (0900 UTC) on Thursday and remain in place. They are critical of the government's response to the outbreak of violence in Benue and are understood to be demanding that security forces be sent to the region.

Those in the area are advised to monitor local media sources for further updates on the demonstrations and to remain apprised of any associated disruption in the area. Travellers should avoid all demonstrations and political gatherings in Nigeria due to the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances and incidental violence as well as aggressive police crowd dispersal operations.
