Hundreds Evacuated following Chemical Spill in Chicalim, Goa

01/19/2018 (India) - According to local media sources on Friday, 19 January, hundreds of villagers have been evacuated following a spillage of ammonia in the village of Chicalim in Goa. Reports indicate that the incident occurred after a truck carrying the chemical overturned and spilt its contents. The incident occurred on Airport road which leads to Goa International Airport and has now been closed by the local emergency services. Unconfirmed reports suggest several local residents reporting itching and irritation as well as breathing difficulties.

Those in Chicalim are advised to keep doors and windows closed, minimise non-essential time spent outdoors and monitor local media sources for further updates on the incident, and air quality levels in the city. Any travellers in the Chicalim area feeling unwell or experiencing shortness of breath should immediately contact their medical provider or local medical practitioners.
