01/18/2018 (Nigeria) - According to local and international media sources on Thursday, 18 January, police in Kaduna state have revised the number of businessmen kidnapped in Tuesday's attack. Sources now report that two Canadians and two Americans were abducted near Kagarko village. The identities of the individuals have still not been disclosed, but they were reportedly returning to Abuja from Kafanchan at around 1900 local time (1800UTC) with an armed police escort, two of whom were killed in the attack. The area is a known kidnapping hotspot. Further information is awaited.

To reduce the risk of kidnapping, clients in Nigeria should maintain a low profile; keep itineraries discreet; vary travel routines, including routes, timings and vehicles; and report any suspicious persons or activities to relevant officials as soon as possible. Other security precautions include installing GPS tracking software on cell phones and in vehicles, and alarm systems and 24-hour guard service at their homes and workplaces.
