01/18/2018 (Kenya) - According to local media reports on Thursday, 18 January, protests have been reported for the fourth week running outside the construction site of the Bonyunyu Dam in Nyamira, which is being built by the Lake Victoria South Water Services Board (LVSWB), with the assistance of the Dutch government. Tension has been high in the area after a protester was shot by police officers two weeks ago following a confrontation between locals and armed officers guarding work persons. The Demonstrators have been barricading roads in an attempt to prevent workers from reaching the site.

Those in the area are advised to monitor local media sources for further updates on the demonstrations and to remain apprised of any associated disruption in the area. Travellers should avoid all demonstrations and political gatherings in Kenya due to the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances and incidental violence as well as aggressive police crowd dispersal operations.
