01/17/2018 (Hong Kong) - The Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department (EPD) on Wednesday, 17 January issued an alert for high pollution levels, particularly in urban areas. The Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) in some areas has reached the 'Very High' risk category, with some urban and roadside locations likely to reach the 'Serious' risk category. Weather conditions are contributing to the issue, with low winds failing to disperse the pollution.

At the current 'Very High' health risk level, travellers are advised to reduce outdoor physical exertion and to reduce the time of their stay outdoors, especially in areas with heavy traffic. If the index reaches 'Serious', travellers should reduce to the minimum outdoor physical exertion, and reduce to the minimum the time of their stay outdoors, especially in areas with heavy traffic. Those with pre-existing heart or respiratory conditions should avoid outdoor physical exertion, and avoid staying outdoors, especially in areas with heavy traffic. Travellers are further advised to follow local media sources for updates on the situation.
