Suicide Bombing Targets Senior Police Officer in Malir, Karachi

01/17/2018 (Pakistan) - According to local media reports on Wednesday, 17 January, an attempted assassination targeting the Senior Superintendent of Police Malir Rao Anwar has failed. A suicide bomber reportedly blew himself up near the officer's convoy, which then came under fire from militants. Two militants were reportedly killed in the ensuing engagement, along with the bomber. Sources report that the area of the attack has been cordoned off and a search operation has been launched to apprehend the remaining militants, who fled the scene.

There is currently a serious and persistent threat of terrorism across Pakistan. Particularly high-value targets for terrorist groups in Pakistan include security installations, patrols, and vehicles, markets, shopping malls, religious gatherings, diplomatic facilities and mosques.
