01/16/2018 (Switzerland) - According to local media reports on Tuesday, 16 January, protests have been held in Bern to protest the meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. Several hundred demonstrators marched through the city with placards in an unauthorised but peaceful protest. However, Swiss authorities warned of a high potential for violence at further planned protests during the WEF, which runs from Monday, 22 January to Friday, 26 January. The potential for violence is exacerbated by the planned presence of United States President Donald Trump. Previous meetings of the WEF have attracted violent protests, with anti-globalisation and anarchist groups clashing with security forces.

Travellers in Bern and Davos should anticipate potential localised travel disruption and related delays due to increased security measures in the lead-up to and during the WEF, and remain clear of any protests, whether planned or spontaneous, directed at the event.
