01/16/2018 (Venezuela) - According to international media sources on Tuesday, 16 January, military operations were carried out yesterday in the Junquito neighbourhood west of Caracas. The objective of such operations was to capture the prominent rebel leader Oscar Lopez, who used a helicopter in June 2017 to attack the Ministry of Interior, in a spectacular action. Reports indicate that at least five, allegedly including Oscar Lopez, have been killed by the military forces in these operations.

The latest incidents are illustrative of the threat presented by small groups of anti-government paramilitaries. Clients are reminded that Venezuela is a high risk country. The country has very high crime rates, posing a pervasive and endemic threat to the personal safety of both local and foreign nationals. As such, all operational movements should be subject to a localised risk assessment, and undertaken in coordination with a reputable security provider.
