01/16/2018 (Palestinian Territories/ West Bank and Gaza Strip) - Emerging reports on social media indicate that Israel Defence Force (IDF) soldiers have found and detonated an explosive device in the early hours of Tuesday, 16 January, at Joseph's Tomb in the West Bank city of Nablus. Further information on the incident is currently unavailable. Joseph's Tomb is a frequent flashpoint for religious tensions in the West Bank and the IDF regularly escorts groups of Jewish worshippers to the site on organised visits.

Unauthorised visits to the site by Israeli groups not coordinated with the IDF have previously provoked violent clashes in the area. Travellers should exercise caution when travelling in the West Bank and immediately report any suspicious items or activity to security forces. Those in the West Bank are advised to minimise time spent in the vicinity of IDF patrols, security checkpoints, transportation hubs, road junctions and Israeli settlements as these may be targeted in militant attacks.
