01/15/2018 (Venezuela) - According to local media on Monday, 15 January, Venezuelan security forces are assaulting a location in El Junquito, Caracas. The attack is reportedly against a group led by rebel Venezuelan police officer Oscar Perez, who attacked the parliament building using a stolen helicopter in December 2017. At least one member of Perez's group has been killed and Perez is said to be attempting to negotiate with security forces.

Those in Caracas are advised to avoid the area of the incident in the immediate term due to the ongoing security operations. Clients are reminded that Venezuela is a high-risk country. The country has very high crime rates and is currently experiencing a period of severe unrest, posing a pervasive and endemic threat to the personal safety of both local and foreign nationals. As such, all operational movements should be subject to a localised risk assessment, and undertaken in coordination with a reputable security provider.
