01/15/2018 (Senegal) - According to local media sources on Monday, 15 January, at least 22 people have been arrested in Ziguinchor, Casamance Region, in relation to the killing of 14 people on 6 January. The deceased were collecting wood in the protected forest of Bayottes, close to the regional capital of Ziguinchor when a 15- to 20-strong armed group attacked them. The Movement of Democratic Forces of Casamance (MFDC) militant group, who are suspected of carrying out the attack, blames the incident on the illegal teak logging industry, ending a period of relative calm in Casamance.
