Update: One Killed and Multiple Injured after Earthquake near Caraveli Province; Multiple Travel Disruptions Reported

01/14/2018 (Peru) - According to the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN), on Sunday, 14 January, one person has been confirmed killed in Yauca district, Caraveli Province, after an earthquake nearby, earlier in the day. 20 people sustained minor injuries in Chala and three people were injured in Caraveli. Minor landslides have been reported in Yauca and on the Acari to Caraveli road. Electricity disruptions have been reported in the municipalities of Las Lomas, Acari, Bella Union, Yauca, Jaqui, Atiquipa, Chala and Cahuacho. The earlier tsunami warning has been cancelled.

Those in the region should be mindful of potential aftershocks in the medium term and are advised to monitor local media sources to remain apprised of any earthquake-related developments. Clients are further advised to remain alert to any emergency directives issued by authorities.
