01/14/2018 (Palestinian Territories/ West Bank and Gaza Strip) - According to local media on Sunday, 14 January, Israeli authorities have closed the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip until further notice. The closure comes after the Israeli Air Force (IAF) destroyed a 1.6km (1 mile) tunnel on 13 January that ran underneath the Rafah crossing, which was reportedly built by the Hamas militant group.
Travellers are advised to avoid all non-essential movement in the vicinity of the Gaza border in order to mitigate the risk of exposure to cross-border violence.
