01/14/2018 (Georgia) - According to local media sources on Sunday, 14 January, the Transcaucasian highway (Transkam) has been closed at the Verkhny Lars area of North-Ossetia-Alania due to inclement weather. This has reportedly blocked access to the Kazbegi border crossing into northern Georgia. This directive follows a previous ban on all movement by truck on the Transkam, following an avalanche warning issued by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of North Ossetia. Reports indicate that several hundred vehicles are being held at the border crossing as a result.

Clients intending to use the Kazbegi border crossing are advised to review itineraries and plan alternative routes where possible in order to maintain business continuity. Motorists are further advised to exercise heightened caution due to likely hazardous driving conditions resulting from inclement weather. Monitor local media feeds in order to remain abreast of the latest developments.
