7.3 Earthquake Reported Near Chavina District, Lucanas Province; Tsunami Warning Issued

01/14/2018 (Peru) - According to the Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS) on Sunday, 14 January, a 7.3 magnitude earthquake has struck 2km (1.2 miles) offshore, roughly 250km (155 miles) southeast of Ica. The quake reportedly occurred at 0418hrs (0918 UTC) at a depth of 10 km (6 miles). The US Northwest Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a tsunami warning for 300km (186 miles) around the epicentre of the earthquake.

Those in the region should be mindful of potential aftershocks in the medium term and are advised to monitor local media sources to remain apprised of any earthquake-related developments, particularly tsunami warnings. Clients are further advised to remain alert to any emergency directives issued by authorities.
