01/14/2018 (Turkey) - According to social media sources on Sunday, 14 January, a pro-democracy protest will take place in the centre of Istanbul against the extension of the state of emergency in Turkey. The protest will take place at 1500hrs (1200 UTC) on 14 January at Freedom Square in the Bakirkoy district, Istanbul, and is organised by the Confederation of Public Employees' Trade Unions (KESK). The state of emergency has been in place since an attempted coup in July 2016 and public sector workers have been particularly affected by emergency measures, which included large-scale dismissals of public sector workers.

Those in Istanbul are advised to avoid the vicinity of the event in order to avoid exposure to unruly crowd behaviour, opportunistic crime and police crowd control measures. Clients are further advised to anticipate localised travel disruptions resulting from a heightened police presence. Monitor local media for updates on the situation.
