Kananga Airport under Attack by Unknown Militants, Lulua Province

01/14/2018 (Congo (Kinshasa)) - According to unconfirmed social media reports on Sunday, 14 January, a Democratic Republic of Congo position at Kananga airport (KGA) has come under attack by unknown militants in Kananga, Lulua province. Four soldiers have reportedly been killed.

Clients travelling via KGA are advised to contact their airline prior to travel to ascertain the status of their flights. Severe flight delays are expected, and overland travel disruption may also be anticipated in the vicinity of the airport while security operations are underway. Essential travel in the region should be subjected to the strictest possible security management procedures, including contracting armed private security and using vehicles equipped with radios. Personnel operating in the DRC are advised to regularly review their crisis management plans and security measures to ensure they remain commensurate with the evolving local threat environment.
