01/14/2018 (Papua New Guinea) - According to international media on Sunday, 14 January, 1500 people are being evacuated from the island of Blup Blup, East Sepik province, after Mount Kadovar volcano erupted on the nearby island of Kadovar on 12 January. The volcano began venting ash on 5 January, prompting the initial evacuation of 590 people from Kadovar to Blup Blup, and the Rabaul Volcanological Observatory has now observed lava flows from the volcano. The International Red Cross is assisting with the evacuation to mainland Papua New Guinea.

Those in East Sepik province are advised to familiarise themselves with local emergency protocols and heed any directives issued by authorities, including evacuation orders. Clients operating within Papua New Guinea are advised to closely monitor developments through local media as ash produced by volcanic eruptions can disrupt air travel within the region.
