01/14/2018 (Peru) - According to local media sources on Saturday, 13 January, at least 7,000 demonstrators gathered in central Lima in order to show support for the recent Presidential pardon issued to release former President Alberto Fujimori. Previous demonstrations in Lima against the same measure gathered tens of thousands of protesters and extended all around the world where hundreds of anti-Fujimori protesters gathered in multiple international major cities. More unrest is highly likely in the short-term.

Although future protests are likely to remain peaceful, clients are advised to avoid the demonstration due to the associated risks of exposure to opportunistic crime, unruly crowd behaviour, and police crowd control measures. They should monitor local media sources to remain aware of current tensions and for any updates related to planned or ongoing unrest in their area of operations.
