Newcastle Airport Closed due to Heavy Smoke from Bushfire

01/13/2018 (Australia) - According to local media on Saturday, 13 January, Newcastle Airport (NTL) has been closed until 14 January due to a bushfire in the vicinity. The fire was exacerbated by strong westerly winds, and heavy smoke forced the closure of the airport. All flights on 13 January have been cancelled and the airport is expected to re-open in the morning on 14 January.
Those travelling via NTL on 13 and 14 January are advised to contact their flight provider ahead of departure in order to clarify the status of their flight. Travellers should anticipate flight delays and cancellations and should monitor official announcements for further updates.
