01/13/2018 (Morocco) - According to international media on Friday, 12 January, a major international football tournament, African Nations Championship (CHAN), will take place in Morocco from 13 January until 4 February. Matches will take place in Tangier, Casablanca, Agadir, and Marrakesh and there will be an increased security presence in these locations around match dates. As with most large sporting events, there is the potential for localised unrest between supporters and security forces. Travel disruptions in these cities and increased wait times at major airports are likely during the tournament period.
Clients are advised to exercise caution around high-profile sporting events and avoid all large public gatherings, particularly groups of fans, due to the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances, incidental violence, and police crowd control operations. Those in the affected cities should monitor local media sources to remain apprised of related security operations and travel disruption.
