01/13/2018 (Syria) - According to international media sources on Friday, 12 January, forces of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) continue their offensive into Idlib despite Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), previously Al-Nusra, attempts to repel the latest al-Assad move to take control of the military airbase of Abu al-Duhur. Reports indicate that the airbase will fall to government troops imminently after days of intense fighting, providing a significant asset for the SAA forces.
Clients are currently advised to reconsider all travel to Syria given the extreme conflict risk. All travel outside of secure compounds should be undertaken on an operationally-critical basis only and in coordination with local authorities and trusted security providers. Those in Syria should continually review crisis management plans and security procedures to ensure they remain commensurate with the current local threat environment.
