10/17/2017 (Uruguay) - According to local sources on Tuesday 17 October, the National Meteorological Institute has issued orange alerts for five departments including Salto, Paysandu, Tacuarembo, Rio Negro and Durazno, due to strong storms forecasted for today. Other departments have been issued with yellow alerts ahead of the storm. Heavy rainfall, intense electric activity, strong wind gusts and heavy hailstorms are expected. Widespread power outages and overland travel disruption should be expected.

Travellers should be prepared for weather-related disruption in the area in the immediate to medium term and should factor this into itineraries, allowing additional time and planning alternative routes where possible. Those without power should note that crews are working to restore it, although there is no timeline for full restoration due to the ongoing storm. Travellers are advised to monitor the local news and bulletins for the latest information that may affect travel and business continuity.
