10/17/2017 (Nigeria) - According to local sources on Tuesday, 17 October, Plateau state authorities have decreed a curfew in the Bassa Local Government area running from 1800hrs (1700 UTC) to 0600hrs (0500 UTC). These security measures follow a wave of attacks in areas in the vicinity of Bassa Local Government area, including two recently reported violent incidents in which over 30 people were killed allegedly by Fulani herdsmen.

Travellers in Plateau state should review travel plans in light of the curfew and heed all directives issued by authorities. Clients are advised to avoid the vicinity of any large gatherings in order to minimise the risk of exposure to potential incidental violence and aggressive crowd dispersal measures by security personnel. Given the elevated violence in the area, travellers are advised to maintain a low profile and avoid discussing politically sensitive topics in public.
