10/17/2017 (Kyrgyz Republic) - According to international media sources on Tuesday, 17 October, celebratory political gatherings are expected in and around Bishkek this week following general elections held on Sunday, 15. Sooronbay Jeenbekov won the vote by 54 percent over 33 percent of the ballots cast garnered by the other electoral contestant. It has been indicated that international observers have called these Presidential elections open and democratic, though some inadequacies with the vote-counting process were reported.

Those within Bishkek are advised to avoid any type of political gathering in order to mitigate against exposure to unruly crowd behaviour, opportunistic crime and heavy-handed police response. Clients are further advised to anticipate overland travel disruptions along the aforementioned route and adjust journey plans accordingly.
