10/17/2017 (Turkey) - According to international sources on Tuesday, 17 October, the country's Security Council proposed a 90-day extension to the currently established national state of emergency. The Parliament is set to approve the motion on Thursday given the majority of seats held by Erdogan's Development Party (AKP). The directive was originally introduced in July 2016, following a putsch orchestrated allegedly by the exiled opposition figure, Fethullah Gulen.

Clients in Turkey should anticipate the continuation of the current increased security presence nationwide, which may have an impact on travel plans. Clients are further advised to anticipate the possible potential for unrest led by the political opposition, and all in-country personnel is advised to remain well clear of any planned or spontaneous political demonstrations.
