Double Car Bomb Attack in Gardez City, Paktia Province

10/17/2017 (Afghanistan) - According to local media reports on Tuesday, 17 October, two car bombs have been detonated in Gardez City, Paktia Province. Officials have confirmed that two vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices were detonated in close succession in the vicinity of the police headquarters. The number of resultant casualties has not yet been established. Social media sources indicate that clashes between militants and security forces are currently underway, with reports of gunfire exchange near the police headquarters. The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Those in Paktia Province are advised to exercise a high level of caution given the current security situation. Operations within the province should only be undertaken with the strictest possible security risk management procedures in place.
