10/17/2017 (Australia) - According to international media reports on Tuesday, 17 October, one man has been killed and another is in a critical condition as floods hit south-east Queensland after torrential rains hit the state. Police said that the man was killed when his car had been swept from a flooded causeway at Mary's Creek near Gympie. The injured man was struck by an out of control car which skidded on the flooded road, propelling both of them into the creek. The jogger was rescued by emergency services after being spotted by a passer-by. In central Queensland, a helicopter rescued a man from the roof of his vehicle after it became stranded in flood waters near Miriam Vale. The Queensland Fire and Emergency Service have warned people not to try to cross submerged roads and causeways.

Those in Queensland are advised to monitor local media sources for further weather-related updates and to remain apprised of any directives issued by local authorities. Ongoing travel disruption should be anticipated in storm-affected areas in the medium term and accounted for in travel itineraries where possible. Those intending to conduct overland travel in the coming days are advised to anticipate possible road blockages and closures and should plan alternative routes where possible. Drivers should exercise a heightened degree of caution in flood-affected areas due to likely hazardous conditions caused by flooding and debris.
