Kidnapping Ring Dismantled in Security Operations in Villahermosa, Tabasco

10/16/2017 (Mexico) - According to local media sources on Monday, 16 October, a group of kidnappers was recently dismantled following security operations in Villahermosa. At least one of the members of the criminal group was shot down by the security forces whilst seven were reportedly arrested. Reports indicate that three people were released following these operations. The group of kidnappers operated in multiple areas nearby Villahermosa including, Cucuyulapa, Cunduacan, Corregidora and Jalpa de Mendez.

Due to the risk of kidnap in Mexico, travellers are advised to exercise good situational awareness, especially in unfamiliar environments. To reduce the risk of kidnapping, travellers should maintain a low profile; keep travel itineraries discreet; vary travel routines, including routes, timings and vehicles; and report any suspicious persons or activities to relevant officials as soon as possible.
