10/16/2017 (Philippines) - According to local media reports, jeepney drivers have planned strikes to take place in Manila and select provinces on Monday, 16 October. The strike is in protest of a government order calling for the modernisation of ageing vehicles. A similar strike earlier this year caused major disruption to commuters who depend on jeepneys to travel around the capital. Some schools and workplaces have planned to close during the strike.
Travellers in the country are advised to revise journey plans accordingly in order to minimise disruption and impact on business continuity. Clients should also be aware of a surge in demand for alternative means of transport. Personnel are further advised to monitor local media sources for further information concerning the planned strikes.
