Ongoing Security Operations across VRAEM Area

10/16/2017 (Peru) - According to local media reports on Monday, 16 October, at least four reported militants belonging to the communist organisation Sendero Luminoso, have been killed by the armed forces during ongoing security operations in the Valle de los Rios Apurimac, Ene y Mantaro (VRAEM) area. Large-scale security operations were carried out in multiple areas including Ayahuanco, Pucallpa, Rio Mantaro, Quebrada Vizcatan, Quebrada, Chumaycota, Mayapo and Llochegua. It is indicated that at least 23 people were arrested in coordinated raids against a diverse array of criminal organisations operating across the state. The VRAEM is one of the largest coca producing regions in the country.

Those in the region should exercise a high level of situational awareness and report any suspicious activity.
