10/16/2017 (Burkina Faso) - According to incoming international media reports on Monday, 16 October, travellers in Ouagadougou should expect an increased risk of unrest during the treason trial of the former Foreign Minister. Previous developments within the prosecution have led to large scale protests on both 10 and 11 October in central Ouagadougou. Any protest is expected to be highly policed.

Those within Ouagadougou and other urban centres are advised to avoid the vicinity of large demonstrations and rallies in order to mitigate against exposure to unruly crowd behaviour, opportunistic crime and potentially heavy-handed crowd dispersal measures by police. Given present unrest, personnel operating in Burkina Faso are advised to regularly review their crisis management plans and security measures to ensure they remain commensurate with the evolving local threat environment.
