10/16/2017 (Chile) - According to reports from local media sources, an umbrella organisation of public sector workers' unions known as the Public Sector Bureau has declared its intention to stage a strike on Tuesday, 17 October. Unions participating in the industrial action include the influential ANEF and CUT organisations and are likely to mobilise their members in large rallies in Santiago and other major urban centres.

Those in-country are reminded to avoid the vicinity of protests and demonstrations in order to mitigate the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances, opportunistic crime and police crowd control measures. Clients should closely monitor local media sources on Tuesday for strike-related developments and be aware the strike action may cause significant disruption to transport and commercial arrangements, especially in the vicinity of rallies or demonstrations.
